Bio:
I am an Artist first and foremost; nothing I have achieved in my career would be possible without that inner fire that consumes me. I was born in Clovis, NM on an Air Force base in the desert. My father was in the military, which gave me the opportunity to grow up and experience parts of the world that most people will never see. Those places and experiences have played a huge role in inspiring me and shaping what I see and how I create.
I moved to Memphis, TN in 1996 to attend Memphis College of Art, where I received my Bachelor of Fine Art degree in 2001. I have subsequently integrated my art in and around my career as a successful UI manager, Art Director and Photographer. Since 2001 my career has pushed me to create beautiful imagery in many digital mediums, but working on paper is where I feel most comfortable. The marks paper allows me to make, the way it holds color and its texture permit me to create an environment that builds relationships with the viewer and leaves a lasting impression.
To me, art is more than just how I make my living – art is life. I would love for you to make my art a part of yours.
Artist Statement:
My work is about the landscape, both physical and mental. It is about discovering our surroundings and appreciating the beauty of either the cognitive experience or naturally occurring environments. I build a dialogue with the viewer that reflects the threshold of mental images in relation to the landscape itself. The works describe a given sight, changing from one perspective to another and defines a particular space but not a specific place. The works focus more on snapshots of being between the mind and a real place; purposefully meditative and are allusions of imagery, demanding from the viewer a pure sensory response.
I divide up the pieces and segment the compositions similar to a land map and all it’s imposed borders. My style is very gestural and an expressionistic drawing aesthetic. Combining subtle fluctuations of light, changes in color, interactions between pigments with built up layers of texture (in a combination of transparencies) resulting in my remembrance of ephemeral experiences.
